What rabeprazole is used for:
Rabeprazole tablets are used to treat the following conditions:
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GORD), which can include heartburn.
GORD occurs when acid and food leak from your stomach into the food tube (esophagus).
Ulcers in your stomach or upper part of your intestines (bowel).
Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, where your stomach produces too much acid
Do not take rabeprazole if:
You are allergic to rabeprazole sodium, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking rabeprazole if:
you are allergic to other proton pump inhibitor medicines or 'alternative benzimidazoles'.
Blood and liver problems have been seen in some patients but often improve when rabeprazole is stopped.
You have a stomach tumor.

if you are taking atazanavir - to treat HIV infection.
If you have low body stores or risk factors for low vitamin B12 and are receiving long-term treatment with rabeprazole sodium.

Possible side effects:

Other medicines and rabeprazole:
Tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
ketoconazole or itraconazole - used to treat infections caused by fungi.
Atazanavir Atazanavir is used to treat HIV infection.
Methotrexate - If you are taking a high dose of methotrexate your doctor may temporarily stop your treatment with rabeprazole.
How to take rabeprazole:
For the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
Treatment of moderate to severe symptoms (GORD symptoms)
The usual dose is one rabeprazole 10 mg tablet once a day for up to 4 weeks
Take the tablet in the morning before eating
If your condition returns after 4 weeks of treatment, your doctor may tell you to take one rabeprazole 10 mg tablet when you need it.
Treatment of severe symptoms (erosive or ulcerative)
The usual dose is one rabeprazole 20 mg tablet once a day for 4 to 8 weeks
Take the tablet in the morning before eating
Long-term symptomatic therapy (GORD maintenance)
The usual dose is one rabeprazole 10 mg or 20 mg tablet once a day for as long as your doctor tells you to.
Take the tablet in the morning before eating
Your doctor will want to see you at regular intervals to check your symptoms and dosage
for stomach ulcers (peptic ulcers)
The usual dose is one rabeprazole 20 mg tablet once a day for 6 weeks
Take the tablet in the morning before eating
Your doctor may tell you to take rabeprazole for another 6 weeks if your condition does not improve
for intestinal ulcers (duodenal ulcers)
The usual dose is one rabeprazole 20 mg tablet once a day for 4 weeks

Your doctor may tell you to take rabeprazole for another 4 weeks if your condition does not improve
For ulcers caused by H. pylori infection and to prevent it from coming back
The usual dose is one rabeprazole 20 mg tablet twice a day for seven days
Your doctor will also tell you to take antibiotics called amoxicillin and clarithromycin
Zollinger-Ellison syndrome where excess stomach acid is produced
The usual dose is three rabeprazole 20 mg tablets once a day to start
The dose can then be adjusted by your doctor depending on how you respond to treatment
How to store rabeprazole:
Keep out of sight and reach of children.
Do not store this medicine above 25°C.
Do not refrigerate.
Do not use rabeprazole after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and foil.
The expiration date refers to the last day of the same month.
